You can return the number of workdays between two date and take into account any Bank Holidays within the same date range
Manually you would need to flag each date with a ‘1’ and then perform a SUM function to return the total days flagged
Clearly this is not a practical was of establishing the number of workdays within a date range and is open to error as well as being very time consuming.
Excel provides a function to do all the above for us……
NETWORKDAYS will return the number of workdays (Mon-Fri) between two dates and there is an option of including a list of Bank Holidays in the calculation
The function is built as follows – =NETWORKDAYS(Start_date, End_date, Holidays)
Adding a list of bank holidays is optional and can be omitted if not required
If the working week is not Mon-Fri, the NETWORKDAYS.INTL function can be used to specify which days of the week are workdays.
